The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has confirmed that Lake Nakuru National Park will be excluded from the nationwide free entry initiative planned for Saturday, September 27.
Only visitors who have booked and paid for eCitizen tickets will be allowed to enter the park through the Nderit Gate from 6 am to 6 pm.
Access through the Main Gate near the flamingo area and Lanet Gate will remain closed for the day, preventing walk-in visitors and those expecting free entry.
The restriction applies solely to Lake Nakuru, while all other KWS-managed parks, reserves, and sanctuaries across Kenya will still participate in the free entry program.
"The public is hereby notified that there shall be no free entry to Lake Nakuru National Park, Saturday, September 27, 2025," KWS stated. "However, customers with prepaid eCitizen tickets are advised to access Lake Nakuru National Park through Nderit Gate from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm."
KWS reminded visitors to strictly follow park rules to ensure both safety and wildlife conservation. Tourists are expected to avoid feeding animals, minimize noise, and keep a safe distance from wildlife, which can be unpredictable.
“Respect the privacy of the wildlife, this is their habitat,” the agency warned. Visitors should maintain a minimum distance of 20 metres from animals, refrain from crowding, sudden movements, or loud noises, and avoid car hooting inside the park.
The service also emphasized that all KWS-managed parks, reserves, and sanctuaries are plastic-free zones.
Visitors must remain in vehicles except at designated areas, avoid off-road driving, and adhere to speed limits capped at 40kph, with violators facing potential bans from future visits.
Camping regulations include not leaving fires unattended and disposing of burning objects carefully. Tourists are also urged to respect local communities by seeking permission before taking photographs and dressing appropriately
